Study Links Unemployment To Suicide Increase

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

A British study has found evidence linking the increase in unemployment is related to the rise in suicide rates, especially those among men.  Between 2008 and 2010, the study found 846 more suicides among men than would have been expected based on historical trends, and 155 more suicides among women. English regions with the largest rises in unemployment have had the largest increases in suicides, particularly among men.

The findings could apply to other countries with rising unemployment rates.
