State Senator Bob Mensch toured MCES on February 1, discussing mental health issues with staff and a MCES board member.
Dr. Rocio Nell, MCES stff and board member Clifford Rogers, EdD briefed Senator Mensch on MCES's increasing crisis contacts with elders and Veterans, the impact of state hospital downsizing and state budget cuts to behavioral health programs on aftercare for individuals with serious mental illness, and MCES's work with police, the mental health court, and the criminal justice system in general.
MCES will be providing the senator with recommendations for improving the mental health system in the Commonwealth. MCES appreciates the time and interest of Senator Mensch, who represents the 24th District, which includes parts of Montgomery, Berks, Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Senator Mensch chairs the Senate's Committee on Aging and Youth and is vice chair of the Committee on Public Health and Welfare.
"It was a pleasure to talk with the senator," Dr. Nell said. "He showed a sincere interest in helping those in times of crisis and I thank him for that."
